  17. METROSOFT SHIPS METROSCAN 2.3--FORMERLY POWERSCAN BY HSD
  18. NEW VERSION OFFERS ENHANCED COPY/FAX FEATURES

  20. SAN DIEGO, California, March 29, 1994 -- Metrosoft today announced
  21. that it has begun shipping MetroScan 2.3, formerly called PowerScan,
  22. by HSD. The new version offers speed improvements, new features,
  23. support for more scanners, and enhanced copy and fax capabilities.
  24. In a partnership formed between the two companies last month,
  25. Metrosoft obtained exclusive publishing rights to of all HSD's
  26. products for NEXTSTEP.

  28. MetroScan is a full-featured scanning application for computers
  29. running NEXTSTEP. The new version actually includes two applications:
  30. MetroScan, for scanning and image manipulation, and;  COPY/FAX, a
  31. "Services" based application which utilizes your scanner and printer,
  32. or scanner and fax modem, to simulate an office copy machine or
  33. paper fax machine.

  35. MetroScan is flawlessly integrated with NEXTSTEP and can be used
  36. as a service or a stand-alone application. Features include preview
  37. scanning, brightness, contrast and threshold adjustment, scaling,
  38. filtering, image manipulation, image conversion, and saving in a
  39. variety of  compressed and non-compressed formats.

  41. COPY/FAX is a "Services" based application which utilizes your
  42. scanner and printer, or scanner and fax modem, to simulate an office
  43. copier of paper fax machine with just a single click of your mouse!
  44. Simply put a document in your scanner, select COPY/FAX from the
  45. Services menu, then enter a fax number in the fax panel or the
  46. number of copies you require. That's all there is to it.

  48. MetroScan and COPY/FAX work with HSD and Umax scanners, with support
  49. for Epson, HP and other scanners planned. Both applications include
  50. support for an optional automatic document feeder and transparency
  51. adapter.

  53. MetroScan 2.3 has a retail price of $495--educational and government
  54. discounts are available. Current user's of PowerScan 1.0 can upgrade
  55. for $99, while PowerScan 2.0 user's can upgrade for $10. Upgrades
  56. are available from Metrosoft directly.
